The Makers Mailer was launched in January 2015 by a lovely lady named Fi, a fellow Mornington Peninsula local. At the time I was running a handmade necklace business and had connected with Fi through a local women’s business network. Fi liked to wear a few different business hats and decided that The Makers Mailer wasn’t going to be one of them. My ears pricked up as I felt the business model was quite unique and thought I could do a little something with it. Plus the idea of sending out amazing gifts for women sounded like fun!
I bought the business and took over the reigns in March 2016 thinking I would run two businesses at once. Because women are so good at multi-tasking right? Well, three months in I decided to abandon the jewellery game, an industry I loved since working for an Adelaide wedding ring manufacturer in my pre-children life. So it was full steam ahead for The Makers Mailer from there.
The evolution of the business continued with a website revamp and the addition of our 24 hour turn around service in 2017, followed by the introduction of birthday gift subscriptions in January of this year. An exciting offering whereby you can purchase a 3, 6 or 12 month gift subscription and have the gifts sent to a different birthday girl each month.
When I’m not sourcing items to feature in our gift parcels or wrapping and packing, you’ll most likely find me driving one of my three boys around or enjoying a sneaky coffee at a local cafe. I’m a morning person who needs to be close to the ocean. I like to go places, but not on a plane. I’m quite partial to a daily caffeine fix and I do enjoy a weekend beverage with family and friends.
Although it’s just me running the show I couldn’t do it without the support of my very patient partner and our three fellas, all of the wonderful featured artists, plus the awesome staff at my local post office.
The Makers Mailer is about discovering fabulous Australian artists, sharing their creative works far and wide, and delighting our gift recipients. You can join our mailing list to keep up with the latest happenings, and no, I won’t spam you. Who has time for that?
We’ve also had some lovely media types feature us in their publications which makes me feel quite chuffed!
